Special occasions call for special treats. Two very different occasions; a thank you and Father's Day inspired me to make a decadent dessert thanks to "Tastes of Lizzy T". I decided to double the recipe and share this creamy, caramel, peanut butter, chocolate goodness. By doubling the recipe I was able to make three 8 x 8 pans, for a total of 48 generous sized squares.

If you've haven't made a Pavlova, simply put - you must. I've made many varieties over the years and every single one has been devoured with pleasure. Pavlova is a beautiful thing. It's not difficult to make and it's a decadent dessert without a lot of fuss. The sugar is fairly low in comparison to many traditional desserts, and it's and gluten free.
Toblerone Shortbread Cookies literally translated means "to die for". Well not really but they are my all time favourite Christmas cookie. They're not only easy to whip up but they smell and taste amazing. For some reason shortbread is something I usually only indulge in during the Christmas season, and this particular recipe has become a Christmas tradition.
This was our first Christmas in White River, South Africa, away from family and friends. We were definitely missing everyone along with many of the things that are both normal and special during the Christmas season. While our home in Ottawa, Canada was being turned into a winter wonderland, we were taking refuge in a swimming pool.
I think it was my daughter, Samara who happened to mention "cinnamon buns". We didn't often eat cinnamon buns in Canada, but when we did, it was a real treat. The best cinnamon buns I've ever had can't be bought at a store, they were made with love in Stella Rouble's kitchen. We affectionately called them "Stella Buns"! I got to thinking about her amazing buns and couldn't get them out of my head. There is something incredibly comforting about the gooey goodness and heavenly aroma of a cinnamon bun. My next stop was Pinterest of course. I decided on a recipe that incorporated a little more than cinnamon and settled on Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls.
If I were to pick my all time favourite go to comfort food it would be Apple Pie, so I thought the combination of cinnamon buns and apples was worth a try! We've moved from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to White River, South Africa. One of our South African colleagues had a birthday and I heard her favourite dessert was "Milk Tart". Milk what? It sure didn't sound very appealing to me. I couldn't imagine any tart that involved milk as its main ingredient could be very interesting or tasty. Well I'm happy to report, I was wrong. Very, very wrong! According to Susannah Brinkley: A pie of Cape Dutch origin, melktert literally translates to ‘milk tart’. It’s a bit like a custard tart, but with a different consistency. Milk tarts are luscious and creamy, and the best ones are topped with a sprinkling of cinnamon. I searched for and read over at least a dozen or so recipes before settling on two very similar recipes to use as my first "kick at the can". Though the recipes were similar, one included "baking powder" in the crust. A small amount of baking powder is like magic in crust. The other recipe provided a nicely balanced filling.
Easy to prepare and usually tastes like, "more please". This no bake peanut butter pie is a family favourite. The Food Network offers us up a great starting point for this delicious pie. My dad's allergic to chocolate so I always serve up his piece first and then "generously" drizzle chocolate on top for everyone else. Who can refuse chocolate and peanut butter? Creamy Peanut Butter PieLooking for a dessert that will be as rewarding to the eye as it is the tastebuds? You can't go wrong with this easy, light, creamy, chocolate, strawberry sensation! The only problem you'll run into is...there will never be enough! Thanks to Kraft I've been making my own variation of this dessert for years. It never gets old. The hardest part of making this "show stopper" dessert is dipping the strawberries in semi-sweet chocolate and stopping yourself from eating them (smile).

Terri MazikAll things cooking, from simple and clean to gourmet and exotic (and everything in between) have been my passion for over 30 years. Since discovering Pinterest, I pretty much exclusively cook from the recipes I PIN. My saying is, "if you can PIN it, you can cook it". I love to PIN recipes and I love to cook. I thought, why not blog the recipes I make from my Pinterest food boards. I'm the self-declared, Pincook. Categories
