With our big Christmas meal planned for boxing day this year, it meant I could do a little something extra special for Christmas morning breakfast.
Is there anything better than warm and gooey cinnamon buns?
Following an amazing egg and ham casserole, I pulled the cinnamon buns out of the oven for all to indulge. Yes they take a bit of time to pull off, mainly for the dough to rise, but they are so worth it. I was able to prepare them a day ahead and just pop them into the oven, lightly covered with tinfoil on low (325 degrees) for about 30 minutes.
Want to sell your house? Have these baking during your open house and it's a slam dunk! The smell that was flooding the kitchen was heavenly. The end product lived up to expectations! These delicious and pretty breakfast treats are worth every bit of "little" effort you'll put into them. Super easy to whip up.
Weekends in our house means pancakes and bacon are usually on the menu. Ever since we discovered the difference a little sour cream makes, pancakes have become our weekend favourite breakfast/brunch food of choice.
We have a variety of preferences from raspberry, to chocolate chip, to blueberry, banana or a mixture of raspberry and chocolate chip, the one thing that never changes is the syrup. Pure Maple Syrup is a must!
I think it was my daughter, Samara who happened to mention "cinnamon buns". We didn't often eat cinnamon buns in Canada, but when we did, it was a real treat. The best cinnamon buns I've ever had can't be bought at a store, they were made with love in Stella Rouble's kitchen. We affectionately called them "Stella Buns"! I got to thinking about her amazing buns and couldn't get them out of my head. There is something incredibly comforting about the gooey goodness and heavenly aroma of a cinnamon bun. My next stop was Pinterest of course. I decided on a recipe that incorporated a little more than cinnamon and settled on Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls.
If I were to pick my all time favourite go to comfort food it would be Apple Pie, so I thought the combination of cinnamon buns and apples was worth a try!
We love poached eggs and everyone knows they go hand-in-hand with asparagus which is especially delicious at this time of the year (Spring). I had left over lemon-butter sauce which inspired me to poach the eggs and steam the asparagus. Original recipe: lemon-butter sauce.
